General Notes
Adolphe Valette held a major exhibition of his work in 1918 and 1920 at Finnigan's Department store on Deansgate in Manchester. He painted this original gouache painting to promote this exhibition. He showed 100 oils and pastels, 22 watercolours and 15 engravings and most of the exhibited works sold. He received enthusiastic reviews in the local press. The Manchester Guardian considered that this was one of the most distinguished single-artist exhibitions that had been seen in Manchester for many good years.
