Artists Statement
1990 - 1993 Painting and Drawing, Camden School of Art 2001 - 2007 Sculpture, Jill Berelowitz Sculpture Studios 2009 Metalwork, St Martins College of Art 2010 Stone carving, Andrew Worthington Sculpture Studio
I first started Sculpting in 2001. For the following six years I sculpted part time in the Jill Berelowitz Sculpture Studios in London exhibiting my work alongside the other sculptors as part of a group shows. In 2007 I moved to manchester and started to sculpt full time setting up a studio in my house. Working on my own taught me to sculpt more by instinct and freed up my work, enabling me to create both a stillness and movement in my sculptures. I have developed a love for abstracting the human form to its essence by playing with the lines and the shape and form of the body. I mainly sculpt in plaster but more recent years I have started to experiment sculpting also in metal and stone. In my most recent work I have started to use the new techniques I have developed to try and capture memories, feelings and events that have made an impressions on me be it a diva on stage receiving her applause, the movement of a girl caught up in the pleasure of dancing or the contentment of a mother as she gazes down at her new baby.
