LASTING IMPRESSIONS SHOW IS A RECORD BREAKER - added 21/11/11

The Lasting Impressions show officially ended on Saturday and many of our clients called in to collect their purchases. It has been a phenomenal exhibition, over 2000 people visited the show and we sold 32 Valettes and 41 Liam Spencers. We achieved a world record of £50,000 for a Valette oil and it also has been Liam Spencer’s most successful show ever. We are still holding some of Liam’s work in the gallery and I am confident we will sell quite a few more in the next few weeks. We are now going into a mixed Winter Show, which will feature some great paintings. Keep an eye on the website as new works will be added regularly.

For those of you who missed the BBC North West tonight feature on the exhibition, broadcast on 16th November, you can watch it on our Facebook site or on our You Tube Channel.

OPENING NIGHT VIDEOS - added 1/11/11

Videos of the opening night of the Lasting Impressions show opening night along with an interview with Cecilia Lyon. We've also added a link to Bill's interview on BBC Radio Manchester on 31st October.

LASTING IMPRESSIONS SHOW OPENING NIGHT - added 21/10/11

The gallery was absolutely packed for the opening of the Adolphe Valette/Liam Spencer show on Thursday 20th October.

Over 400 people attended during the evening and we got through a record number of canapes (over 2000!) and bottles of Champagne (over 100). Liam was very happy with the bottles of real ale we got in for him from Dunham Massey Brewery. BBC North West Tonight filmed the show before the opening and did interviews with Liam and Bill. The feature will be shown next week on the six o'clock news.

We also filmed an interview with Cecilia Lyon during the evening. Cecilia wrote the best selling book on Adolphe Valette and curated the current Valette Retrospective exhibition at the Lowry Centre. We'll put it on our You Tube channel when it's edited.

By the end of the evening we had sold 29 of the Valette paintings, a near sell out and 29 of Liam's works. We also achieved a world record price for Valette's Manchester Ship Canal and Warehouses.

The exhibition is on until 19th November, so if you haven't seen it please come along to the gallery. This is the largest selling exhibition of Valettes work for decades and Liams paintings complement the Valettes beautifully.

RARE DOUBLE SIDED VALETTE DRAWING - ADDED 19/10/11

We have just acquired an early Valette charcoal drawing of a male nude. It was in an old battered frame with a Tib Lane Gallery label on the back. The drawing was signed by Valette in the bottom right hand corner. When we took the drawing out of the frame we found another fantastic drawing of the back.

This second drawing is of a well known life Class model at the Manchester School of Art. L.S. Lowry became a student there in 1905 and studued there until 1918. During this period he was taught by Valette. Lowry produced a pencil drawing of the same model around 1914 and iit is highly likely it was done in one of Valette's classes. This direct link with Lowry makes this a very interesting and rare drawing and adds considerably to its provenance. You can view individual images of both drawing plus the Lowry drawing of the same model on our Facebook site.

NEXT SHOW - ADOLPHE VALETTE AND LIAM SPENCER - added 16/9/11

Our next show features two greats of northern art, Adolphe Valette and Liam Spencer. Adolphe Valette was a French impressionist painter who came over to England in 1904. Between 1906 and 1920 he taught art at Manchester Municipal School of Art. His most famous pupil was L.S. Lowry who paid tribute to Valette on a number of occassions. Valette is being honoured with a major retrospective exhibition of his work at The Lowry Centre Salford which opens on 15th October.

Liam Spencer is one most important artists working in the north today. He came to prominence in 2000 when his exhibition at the Lowry Centre was a major success. In the last 10 years he has had regular sell out shows and has built up a loyal following amongst collectors. We are excited  to be showing  his work at Clark Art. He has produced an excellent selection of classic paintings for the show. See Facebook for photos of Liam when he visted the gallery on Thursday 15th September.

The exhibition opens on Thursday 20th October and runs until 19th November. Please contact the gallery if you are not on the mailing list and would like to receive the exhibition catalogue.
